Final Cut Pro costs $299.99 as a [one-time purchase from the Mac App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/final-cut-pro/id424389933?ref=finalcuthub.com) in the U.S. You can also get it inside [Apple Creator Studio](https://www.apple.com/apple-creator-studio/?ref=finalcuthub.com) for $12.99 a month or $129 a year after a free first month, and verified college students and educators pay $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year. If Final Cut on a Mac is the only app you need and you'll keep editing for more than two years, I'd pay the $299.99 once: the third yearly payment already takes the subscription past that price.

The subscription comes out ahead in three cases: you'd also use Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, or Pixelmator Pro; you want Final Cut Pro on an iPad; or you need Final Cut for a single project and will cancel within a few months. Below are the current U.S. prices, the payment where each plan overtakes the one-time cost, the education changes, and what the app costs in other countries.

## Final Cut Pro prices at a glance

Apple sells Final Cut Pro two ways. The standalone Mac app is a one-time purchase, and [Apple's Final Cut Pro page](https://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/?ref=finalcuthub.com) says copies people already own will continue to be updated. Creator Studio is a subscription that bundles Final Cut Pro for Mac and iPad with Motion, Compressor, Logic Pro, MainStage, Pixelmator Pro, and premium content in Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform.

| ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Final Cut Pro, one-time | $299.99 | The Mac app and its updates; Family Sharing with up to six family members |
| Creator Studio, monthly | $12.99 a month after a free first month | Final Cut Pro for Mac and iPad plus the other Creator Studio apps; sharing with up to five other family members |
| Creator Studio, yearly | $129 a year | The same apps for $26.88 less than twelve monthly payments |
| Creator Studio, education | $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year | The same apps for verified college students and educators; no Family Sharing |
| Motion or Compressor, one-time | $49.99 each | Companion Mac apps for motion graphics and custom export settings |

Buyers of a new Mac or iPad can get three months of Creator Studio free instead of one, with conditions covered below. [Motion](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/motion/id434290957?ref=finalcuthub.com) and [Compressor](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/compressor/id424390742?ref=finalcuthub.com) are sold separately at $49.99 each. U.S. and Canadian App Store prices don't include sales tax; [Apple's pricing guidance for developers](https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/tech-talks/110364/?ref=finalcuthub.com) says advertised prices in every other country include taxes.

![Final Cut Pro price paths: $299.99 one-time, Creator Studio at $12.99 a month or $129 a year, and the education plan at $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/ac/57/ac5779c6-4ac7-45d8-83b8-afdad2b814a0/content/images/2026/10/final-cut-pro-price-inline-0-5e4c5623c0a2a6f0.webp)

Three ways to pay for Final Cut Pro at U.S. list prices.

## When buying once beats the subscription

The math depends on which apps you'd otherwise buy. Add up the one-time prices of the apps you'd use, then count the payments each plan needs to pass that total.

__Payment at which each U.S. Creator Studio plan passes the one-time total. Excludes sales tax, the free first month, education pricing, and future price changes.__
| Apps you'd buy outright | One-time total | Yearly plan passes it | Monthly plan passes it |
| ------------------------------------- | -------------- | --------------------- | ---------------------- |
| Final Cut Pro | $299.99 | 3rd payment ($387) | 24th payment ($311.76) |
| Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Compressor | $399.97 | 4th payment ($516) | 31st payment ($402.69) |
| Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro | $499.98 | 4th payment ($516) | 39th payment ($506.61) |
| All six Mac apps in Creator Studio | $679.94 | 6th payment ($774) | 53rd payment ($688.47) |

Read the table as time. For Final Cut alone, the yearly plan costs more once you start a third year, and the monthly plan once you pass two years of payments. Add Logic Pro at $199.99 and the yearly plan stays cheaper for three years. If you'd really use all six apps, including MainStage and Pixelmator Pro, the yearly plan takes five years to overtake buying them.

My rule is to price only the apps you'd open in a normal month, not everything in the bundle: a Logic Pro you never launch adds nothing to the subscription's value. Also plan for the day you stop paying. [Apple's Creator Studio page](https://www.apple.com/apple-creator-studio/?ref=finalcuthub.com) says your projects stay on your devices after a subscription ends, but opening or editing them in those apps requires an active subscription.

![Bar chart of yearly Creator Studio payments at $129, $258, and $387, with only the third crossing the $299.99 one-time price.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/ac/57/ac5779c6-4ac7-45d8-83b8-afdad2b814a0/content/images/2026/10/final-cut-pro-price-inline-1-efdbc0ebe87cdce5.webp)

For Final Cut alone, the third yearly payment passes the one-time price.

## Student and educator pricing

Apple's education plan for Creator Studio costs $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year. It's for college students and educators, Apple verifies eligibility, and the plan doesn't work with Family Sharing. Apple describes the education price as a limited-time offer that can end at any time.

Ten years of the yearly education plan add up to $299.90, a dime less than buying Final Cut Pro once. I'd take the yearly education plan if you qualify: it's the lowest ongoing price Apple lists for Final Cut, and it includes Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, and Pixelmator Pro.

The $199.99 Pro Apps Bundle for Education, with one-time copies of Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, and MainStage, is no longer sold on its own. It's still offered with a Mac bought from Apple's Education Store, according to [MacRumors' report on the change](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/01/29/apple-stops-selling-pro-apps-education-bundle/?ref=finalcuthub.com), and Apple's [Creator Studio support article](https://support.apple.com/en-us/125029?ref=finalcuthub.com) points other students and educators to the bundle through the Apple Store for Education Institution. Students who bought the bundle earlier keep their apps.

Schools buy differently. Through Apple School Manager, [eligible K–12 organizations and accredited, degree-granting colleges get special pricing on 20 or more copies](https://support.apple.com/guide/apple-school-manager/intro-to-apps-and-books-licenses-axme19b23f7f/web?ref=finalcuthub.com) of an app.

## Discounts, promo codes, and the free trial

Apple's Final Cut Pro and Creator Studio pages don't offer promo codes. The discounts Apple does list are these:

- **Free first month.** New Creator Studio subscribers get one month free, which Apple's Final Cut Pro FAQ calls a 30-day free trial. After that, the plan renews at the regular price.
- **Three months with a new device.** New and qualified returning subscribers who buy a new Mac or iPad can get three months free. You have to claim it within three months of first activating the device, it's limited to one offer per Apple Account and per family, and it isn't available if you've already accepted a three-months-free offer.
- **Education pricing.** $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year for verified college students and educators, covered above.

Older guides that describe a 90-day Final Cut Pro download are out of date. Apple's trial page now redirects to the main Final Cut Pro page, and [the free month runs through Creator Studio](https://finalcuthub.com/final-cut-pro-free-trial/). I'd set a calendar reminder a few days before the free month ends, because the plan renews automatically unless you cancel. If the trial is your first time in the app, the [Final Cut Pro beginner tutorial](https://finalcuthub.com/final-cut-pro-beginner-tutorial/) walks through a first project from import to export.

**Does Final Cut Pro go on sale?** Not the one-time purchase. It cost $299.99 when [Final Cut Pro X launched on the Mac App Store](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2011/06/21Apple-Revolutionizes-Video-Editing-With-Final-Cut-Pro-X/?ref=finalcuthub.com) in June 2011, [new users paid the same $299.99 for version 10.3](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2016/10/apple-releases-significant-update-to-final-cut-pro-x/?ref=finalcuthub.com) in 2016, and $299.99 is still the US App Store price. Apple's Black Friday event doesn't lower it either. In 2025 the four-day event paired an eligible Mac with [an Apple Gift Card worth $100 to $250](https://www.macrumors.com/2025/11/20/apple-announces-2025-black-friday-event/?ref=finalcuthub.com), good only for later purchases and not combinable with education pricing. That card [pays for App Store apps as well as hardware](https://www.apple.com/shop/gift-cards?ref=finalcuthub.com), so a Mac bought during the event can leave credit toward Final Cut Pro. I'd count on that only when a new Mac is already on the list, because the card is store credit tied to the hardware, not a lower price for the app.

Skip used licenses and "lifetime keys" from marketplaces. A Mac App Store purchase belongs to the Apple Account that bought it, and [Apple's Media Services terms](https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/us/terms.html?ref=finalcuthub.com) grant a nontransferable license that you may not transfer or redistribute. A seller can't move Final Cut Pro into your account.

![Apple's listed Creator Studio offers: a free month for new subscribers, three free months with a new Mac or iPad, and education pricing at $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year, with used license keys crossed out.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/ac/57/ac5779c6-4ac7-45d8-83b8-afdad2b814a0/content/images/2026/10/final-cut-pro-price-inline-2-a02df6a55c4e816c.webp)

Stick to Apple's own offers: a resold license can't move to your Apple Account.

## Final Cut Pro prices in other countries

The country of your Apple Account decides which App Store you buy from and which price you pay. Outside the U.S. and Canada, the prices below already include taxes such as VAT or GST.

__One-time Mac App Store prices in each country's store. Prices outside the U.S. and Canada include tax.__
| Store | Final Cut Pro | Motion | Compressor |
| ------------------ | ------------- | -------- | ---------- |
| United States | $299.99 | $49.99 | $49.99 |
| Canada | CA$399.99 | CA$69.99 | CA$69.99 |
| United Kingdom | £299.99 | £49.99 | £49.99 |
| Germany and France | €349.99 | €59.99 | €59.99 |
| Australia | A$499.99 | A$79.99 | A$79.99 |
| India | ₹29,900 | ₹4,999 | ₹4,999 |
| Japan | ¥50,000 | ¥8,000 | ¥8,000 |

Creator Studio is priced by country too, so the break-even point moves with your store. Run the same count with the subscription price your App Store shows on the [Creator Studio listing](https://apps.apple.com/us/app-bundle/apple-creator-studio/id1868448255?ref=finalcuthub.com).

## What the one-time purchase doesn't include

Buying Final Cut Pro gets you the Mac app. Apple now presents the iPad app as part of Creator Studio, though the [iPad app's App Store listing](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/final-cut-pro-create-video/id1631624924?ref=finalcuthub.com) still shows in-app purchases at $4.99 and $49, the monthly and yearly prices of the earlier iPad-only subscription, next to the $12.99 and $129 Creator Studio options.

Owners keep receiving Final Cut Pro updates, but Apple says some premium content is available only to Creator Studio subscribers.

Mixing a purchased app with a subscription one has a catch: [exporting from Final Cut Pro through Compressor](https://support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/share-using-compressor-ver1ff89071/mac?ref=finalcuthub.com) works only when both apps are one-time purchases or both come with Creator Studio. If you own Final Cut Pro, I'd buy Compressor once for $49.99 instead of subscribing for it, and only when a delivery needs settings that Final Cut's own share destinations lack, which is the split the [Compressor guide](https://finalcuthub.com/final-cut-pro-compressor/) walks through.

Check your Mac before you pay. The current App Store listing for Final Cut Pro 12.4 requires macOS 26.6 or later, while Apple's product page still lists macOS 15.6; the [Final Cut Pro system requirements guide](https://finalcuthub.com/final-cut-pro-system-requirements/) sorts out that conflict and which Macs qualify.

## Final Cut Pro vs Premiere and Resolve on price

Adobe sells Premiere only by subscription, so there's no one-time option to set against Final Cut's $299.99\. DaVinci Resolve has a free edition, and [Resolve Studio costs $295 once](https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve?ref=finalcuthub.com) at Blackmagic's list price, nearly the same as Final Cut, and it runs on Windows and Linux as well as macOS. Blackmagic's store sometimes sells Studio below that list price during promotions.

Price is rarely what decides between them. The [Final Cut Pro vs Premiere Pro comparison](https://finalcuthub.com/final-cut-pro-vs-premiere-pro/) covers Adobe's plans and what each editor hands to other teams, and the [Final Cut Pro vs DaVinci Resolve comparison](https://finalcuthub.com/final-cut-pro-vs-davinci-resolve/) weighs Resolve's free edition against Studio.

## Which option I'd pick

Buy Final Cut Pro once for $299.99 if you edit on a Mac, don't need the iPad app, and expect to keep editing for more than two years. Choose the yearly Creator Studio plan if you'd regularly use Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, or Pixelmator Pro as well, or if you edit on an iPad. Pay monthly only for a short project you'll cancel afterward. If you're an eligible student or educator, the $29.99 yearly education plan beats both.

Whichever way you lean, use the free month on a real short project and decide before it renews. If you already own Final Cut Pro, there's nothing to do: Apple says owned copies will continue to be updated.
